Cliff Richard Allegations Put Him Back On UK Chart

When fans of British singer Cliff Richard first heard of an investigation into his participation in an alleged underage sex incident they banded together on social media and decided to put him back on the charts.

The focus is on Richard’s 1992 hit I Still Believe in You. During its original run, it went to number 7 and, while fans are certainly hoping to exceed that high, it looks like it might be an uphill battle.

On the mid-week chart from the Official Charts Company, Believe sits at number 43 with a long way to go to beat the record’s original run. It would take 500 more units sold to just make the top 40.

The song was Richard’s 61st top ten British hit out of the 68 he has had in his career. Of those, 14 went to number 1.

Richard’s home in Surrey was searched last week in relation to an alleged incident where the singer was said to have sexually assaulted a boy under the age of 16. Cliff has vehemently denied the charge and government investigators are currently looking into whether the search was a “witch hunt.” Yesterday, he pulled out of a September charity show saying he didn’t want the situation to distract from the proceedings.
