Courtney Barnett gathered up all of her famous friends for cameo appearances in her new video ‘Elevator Operator’.
Paul Kelly, Tim Rogers, Sleater-Kinney, Jeff Tweedy, The Drones and comedy icon Magda Szubanski assist Courtney as the stressed out elevator operator filmed in Melbourne’s Nicholas Building.
Comedy legend Magna Szubanski has a starring role in the video as the person who has to walk the stairs because she keeps missing the lift.
The video was directed by Sunny Leunig, son of cartoonist Michael Leunig, who also appears in the video.
‘Elevator Operator’ starts with a very Melbourne conversation about trams and the free-zone. (You need to visit Melbourne to understand).
‘Elevator Operator’ is actually the second song from Melbourne about an elevator. ‘Elevator Driver’ as a hit song for Aussie rock legends The Masters Apprentices in 1968. That song was written by Brian Cadd.
Barnett will be returning to the US later this year to play the inaugural Sound On Sound festival in Austin as well as a show at the Ogden Theatre in Denver. These will be the last US shows for 2016.
