Deborah Harry Wants To Work With Kanye West

Debbie Harry is dying to collaborate with Kanye West.

The 69-year-old Blondie legend thinks the 37-year-old rapper-and-producer is an incredibly talented musician and Debbie confirms they have discussed potentially crafting some tunes together in the future.

“I spoke to him on the phone and he seemed so normal and easy to talk to. He didn’t seem like a jerk at all,” she told British newspaper The Mirror.

The Heart of Glass singer has been following Kanye’s work for quite a while and although the Yeezus star has won 21 Grammy awards for his songs, Debbie knew she wanted to partner with him after hearing the tune he recorded for a 2009 episode of Family Guy spin-off, The Cleveland Show.

“Ever since he did the rap song for a cartoon,” the songstress said of the moment she was inspired to collaborate with Kanye. “It was so cool, funny and smart. It was a silly, ridiculous refrain and Kanye made it cool. No Church in the Wild is insanely great, too.

“It was [US Vogue editor] Anna Wintour who put us together.”

But Debbie isn’t sure whether she and Kanye will be visiting the recording studio together anytime soon. “It would be fantastic to work with him, maybe one day,” she mused.

Debbie and her band Blondie are credited by many with helping hip hop go mainstream with their hit 1980 single, Rapture. The song, which went Gold in the US and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, mentioned rap pioneers Fab Five Freddy and Grandmaster Flash in its lyrics.
