Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan has been named as the new mentor for The Voice of Ireland.
Dolores will replace Sharon Corr from the Corrs. Last season’s mentors also included Kian Egan of Westlife, singer Jamelia and Niall Beslin from Bressie. They will return for the new season.
O’Riordan formed The Cranberries in 1989. They broke up in 2003 and reformed in 2009. The band’s current status is “active”. Their most recent album was ‘Roses’ in 2012.
The Cranberries sold over 40 million albums worldwide and had four Top 20 albums in America. Their biggest album ‘No Need To Argue’ in 1994 featured ‘Zombie’. The album reached no 1 in Australia, Austria, France and Germany, no 2 in the UK, Netherlands and Switzerland, no 3 in Canada and no 6 in the USA. In America alone it sold over 7 million copies, an incredible amount considering a number one album in America now would sell around one-tenth of that figure.
“It’s great to be back in Ireland and to be taking part in one of Ireland’s most popular TV shows,” she told the Irish Independent. “I know a good voice when I hear one and I am out to find the best star in the country.”
