Garth Brooks Launches New Online Store

Garth Brooks has become an online retailer.

When Garth Brooks, one of the last holdouts to the digital revolution, finally announced that he was going to break the embargo, he said it would be through his own site.

On Thursday, Brooks upped the ante a bit by announcing the beta launch of GhostTunes.com, a new full service retailer that, he says, will treat “music with the utmost respect” and give artists a way to sell their music “any way they dream.”

Brooks also stated that he would be selling his music at “a stupid price” and, whether it could be considered “stupid” or not, he certainly delivered on the price. A special bundle launches the site which includes:

– Instant download of the new single People Loving People and the bonus track Send ‘Em On Down the Road.
– Downloads of other new tracks from his upcoming album as they become available.
– All eight of his previous studio albums.
– The new Double Live 25th Anniversary Edition (2-CDs/DVD)
– Download of the new album on its release date.

Garth is offering all of that at the “stupid” price of $29.95.

Brooks also set out to make the service different from existing retailers, promising to make the music purchased immediately streamable from a personal on-line “locker” even if the buyer is not on their computer and can’t download the tracks. Buyers will also be able to download the music to whatever device they choose.

Brooks said “When I decided it was time to ‘go digital’ I didn’t find an existing way that really fit how I wanted to do it. I shared my dream with some amazing minds and together have created something really special – GhostTunes.com. This is a site that treats music with the utmost respect, where our job everyday is to offer music the way the artists want to share it to the listeners who live for and love it. That’s a job I hope I can do everyday.”

From the artist’s standpoint, they can choose to sell their music as full albums, singles only, or “however they’d like to extend the creative process they have in the studio to the final sale.”

Along with Brooks’ music, the site launches with a large library of music from other artists from Brantley Gilbert and Luke Bryan to Ed Sheeran and Iggy Azalea.
