Hal David and Burt Bacharach were one of the most successful songwriting teams ever, together creating a catalogue of more than 700 songs.

Those songs together and apart included ‘I Saw A Little Prayer’, ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’, ‘This Guys In Love With You’, ‘Do You Know The Way You San Jose’, ‘Close To You’, ‘The Look Of Love’, ’24 Hours To Tulsa’, ‘To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before’, ‘What’s New Pussycat’. ‘Trains and Boats and Planes’, ‘There Is Always Something There To Remind Me’, ‘The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance’, ‘Wishin and Hopin’ … this list would go on.

Hal David was born on May 25, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York.

He met Burt Bacharach in 1957 at the Brill Building, New York’s songwriting factory.

The first song the two had a hit with together was Marty Robbins ‘The Story of My Life’. That same year they wrote ‘Magic Moments’ for Perry Como.

In 2011, David and Bacharach were awarded the Gershwin prize by the Library of Congress.

Hal David suffered a stroke and died at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
