Jonah Kagen Announces First New Zealand Shows As 2027 Australasian Tour Takes Shape

Savannah-born singer-songwriter Jonah Kagen will make his New Zealand debut and return to Australia for headline shows in April 2027, bringing his self-produced second album Eternity of Anything to audiences following his 2025 tour with Sam Barber.

American singer-songwriter Jonah Kagen will make his first visit to New Zealand and return to Australia for a series of headline performances in April 2027. The tour will take Kagen to Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle, alongside two additional Australian appearances with Sam Barber and at Country Fest Queensland.

The announcement marks an important next step for Kagen, who previously visited Australia in 2025 as special guest on Sam Barber’s Restless Mind World Tour. The 2027 itinerary will give Australian audiences their first opportunity to see him headline across several major markets, while Auckland audiences will welcome him for the first time.

Presented by Frontier Touring, the Australasian run begins at Auckland’s Powerstation on Friday 9 April before moving to Sydney’s Metro Theatre on 13 April and Melbourne’s Forum on 14 April. Brisbane’s Tivoli follows on 20 April, with the Australian headline dates concluding at Fremantle’s Freo.Social on 23 April.

Two additional appearances extend the visit beyond the Frontier Touring headline schedule. On Sunday 11 April, Kagen will join Sam Barber and Josiah and the Bonnevilles at Howlin’ Presents on the Newcastle Foreshore. He will then appear at Country Fest Queensland in Townsville on Saturday 17 April, sharing the festival bill with Barber, Brad Cox, Hayley Jensen, Lane Pittman and other Australian and international country artists.

The tour comes with Kagen’s second album, Eternity of Anything, already released through Sony Music. The record represents a significant change in approach from his previous album, Sunflowers and Leather, which documented a period of travel and recording across America inside a rebuilt Airstream trailer.

For Eternity of Anything, Kagen brought the entire recording process under his own control. He wrote, produced, engineered, recorded and mixed the album himself during an intensive two-to-three-month period of relative isolation.

Many of the sessions continued until 4am, with Kagen deliberately keeping the developing music away from outside listeners until the project was complete.

The result brings together intimate songwriting with more adventurous production, contrasting textures and arrangements designed to translate beyond the studio. Love, in its different forms, provides a central theme, while the production moves into grittier territory than his earlier recordings.

The singles Do Better and Don’t Feel Right introduced the direction of the album, demonstrating the balance between direct lyrical expression and a more expansive musical approach.

Kagen first established an international audience with God Needs the Devil, which reached number one on US Alternative Radio and subsequently achieved gold certification. His recorded catalogue has now accumulated more than 500 million global streams.

His previous album, Sunflowers and Leather, included a collaboration with Sam Barber and attracted coverage from People, American Songwriter, Rolling Stone and Ones To Watch. The album reached number three on Spotify’s Top Albums chart.

The release also provided the foundation for an extensive touring period. Kagen completed a sold-out 32-date tour behind the album, performed with Dave Matthews Band at The Gorge and joined Dermot Kennedy for a substantial North American run.

Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, Kagen developed a songwriting approach influenced by American roots writers including Townes Van Zandt and Jason Isbell. Guitarist Andy McKee has also been an influence on his fingerstyle playing, which remains an important part of his musical identity.

That combination of intricate acoustic guitar work and personal songwriting has helped Kagen build an audience beyond the traditional singer-songwriter circuit. His progression from smaller venues to major touring opportunities has been accompanied by a growing international streaming audience.

The April 2027 visit will be his first opportunity to establish a headline presence in New Zealand while expanding his Australian touring history beyond the support appearances of 2025.

With Eternity of Anything now released and a growing international audience behind him, Jonah Kagen’s 2027 Australasian tour will introduce a new chapter in his relationship with Australian audiences and bring his first headline performances to New Zealand.
