Judith Durham “Going Well and Resting Comfortably” Says Keith Potger

Seekers co-founder Keith Potger has confirmed singer Judith Durham is doing well but still recovering in a Melbourne hospital following her brain haemorrhage in May.

In a Facebook post today, Keith wrote:

Suspended animation for me at present. JD going well and resting comfortably. In good hands at the hospital and bright and chirpy when I chat with her, which is usually every couple of days.

As before she sends her humble and grateful thanks to all who send her good wishes and keep her in their prayers and/or thoughts.

This afternoon, Judith’s manager Graham Simpson posted:

Judith is now in her fourth week as a patient of Epworth Private Hospital and continues her intensive rehabilitation program.

The Epworth rehab team has confirmed that Judith suffered an injury to her brain which means that some things are, for now, more difficult for her.

This injury was caused by some bleeding in the brain – like a stroke – but it has not affected Judith’s ability to move or the way she looks. Judith’s concentration and attention is good and she can talk to people and hold a normal conversation.

The Epworth rehab team reports that Judith’s insight into her current difficulties is very good, that she is already planning for the future, and that she is motivated to get better and use strategies.

I’m pleased to report that Judith remains in a very positive frame of mind, and is appreciative of the help and encouragement of her rehab team, and the nursing staff at Epworth.

Judith is disappointed that she is unable to attend next Monday night’s 2013 APRA Music Awards, at which The Seekers will be honoured with the Ted Albert Award For Outstanding Services to Australian Music.

She feels very honoured that APRA has recognised the achievements of The Seekers in such a significant and historic way, and is immensely proud of this latest milestone in The Seekers’ quite extraordinary 50 year story.

Athol, Keith and Bruce will be on hand to accept the Award on behalf of the group.

Judith sends her love and grateful thanks to you all.

Judith suffered the stroke after coming off stage at her hometown Melbourne show in May 14. The Seekers were midway through touring their 50th Anniversary ‘Golden Jubilee’ and immediately cancelled all upcoming dates.

It is still unknown when Judith will be well enough to return to performing.
