The 72-year producer/songwriter/film maker and actor is about to have bladder cancer surgery and he doesn’t know if he will survive the operation.

In an interview with Rock Cellar Magazine Fowley said, “In two weeks I’m going to have bladder cancer surgery and there’s a good chance that I might die. Part of me hopes I do die. Man, I’ve had cancer four times in my life, pneumonia nine times and polio twice. I would say that I’m due. If I die, it will be somebody else’s turn to be kicked around and disliked.”

Fowley’s career started as co-producer of Hollywood Argyles “Alley Oop’ (1960). He wrote songs recorded by Cat Stevens, The Seekers, Manfred Mann, Kiss, Warren Zevon, The Byrds, Van Halen and even Australia’s Mondo Rock.

In the 70s he took on management and created and represented The Runaways.

Fowley’s catalogue has sold over 102 records. After 53 years in the music business he claims his royalties are still coming in at a rate of $200 an hour.
