Live and Stone Temple Pilots will bring their respective alternative rock catalogues to Perth for Lookout on 4 March 2027, with The Living End and Magic Dirt joining the co-headliners at Kings Park & Botanic Garden.
The Perth event is part of a national Lookout tour that will take Live, Stone Temple Pilots, The Living End and Magic Dirt through Adelaide, Bendigo, Canberra, Melbourne, Mornington, Wollongong, Sydney, the Hunter Valley, Broadbeach and Brisbane in March.
Watch the all-new Ed Kowalczyk of Live interview:
For Live, the Perth performance provides another Australian outing for a catalogue that includes “Lightning Crashes”, “I Alone”, “All Over You” and “Lakini’s Juice”. The American band has sold more than 23 million albums worldwide, with Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi both reaching number one on the Billboard 200.
Throwing Copper, released in 1994, became Live’s defining commercial release. It topped the Billboard 200 and eventually passed 10 million sales, while “Lightning Crashes” spent 10 consecutive weeks at number one on the US Modern Rock radio chart.
The follow-up, Secret Samadhi, also opened at number one in the US in 1997 and went double platinum. The Distance To Here followed in 1999 and expanded Live’s reach from the arena circuit into stadiums.
Stone Temple Pilots bring a different chapter of the same alternative rock era to Lookout. The band broke through in 1992 with Core, an album that reached number three on the Billboard 200 and introduced songs including “Sex Type Thing”, “Wicked Garden” and “Plush”.
“Plush” won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, helping establish Stone Temple Pilots as one of the defining American rock bands of the early 1990s. The group’s catalogue was built around the songwriting and guitar work of Dean DeLeo, the bass of Robert DeLeo and the drumming of Eric Kretz, alongside the distinctive voice of the late Scott Weiland.
Stone Temple Pilots continued after Weiland’s departure and death, with Jeff Gutt becoming the band’s lead vocalist. The current lineup recorded Perdida, released in 2020, giving the group its first studio album with Gutt.
The Perth bill also connects the American headliners with two Australian bands whose histories run through the local alternative rock scene.
The Living End formed in Melbourne in 1994 and broke nationally with the 1997 double A-sided single “Second Solution” / “Prisoner Of Society”. Chris Cheney, Scott Owen and Andy Strachan have remained together as the core lineup since 2002.
The band has released eight studio albums and recorded two number one debuts on the ARIA Albums Chart. Their most recent studio album, I Only Trust Rock n Roll, was released last year, marking their first album in eight years.
Magic Dirt add another distinctly Australian thread to the bill. Formed in Geelong in 1991, the band emerged from the Victorian alternative rock scene and developed a reputation for high-energy live performances. Adalita Srsen has remained the central figure in the band’s history, with Magic Dirt becoming one of the most enduring Australian alternative rock acts to emerge from the 1990s.
Lookout will therefore bring together four bands whose catalogues were shaped by different corners of the alternative rock landscape, from Live and Stone Temple Pilots’ US success to the Australian scenes that produced The Living End and Magic Dirt.
The Perth show takes place at Kings Park & Botanic Garden on Thursday 4 March 2027. A Face To Face presale begins at 1.00pm local time on Tuesday 6 October and runs until 12.00pm on Wednesday 7 October. General public tickets go on sale at 1.00pm on Wednesday 7 October.
The national tour then continues through March, giving audiences across Australia the opportunity to see all four acts on the same bill.
