The legendary Melanie Safka joined the legendary Todd Rundgren at the legendary Daryl Hall’s house for an upcoming episode of Live From Daryl’s House.

Rundgren was performing Melanie’s classic ‘Brand New Key’ when he introduced her saying “miracles do happen’.

‘Brand New Key’ was the hit song from Melanie’s 1971 album ‘Gather Me’. The song reached no 9 in the USA, no 1 in Canada and no 4 in Australia.

Melanie has said in interviews that she wrote Brand New Key in 15 minutes. In its day the song had controversy over perceived “sexual innuendo”. Melanie said, “they made up incredible stories as to what the lyrics said and what the song meant. In some places, it was even banned from the radio”.

It was once covered by Olivia Newton-John in 2012 for the movie ‘A Few Best Men’.

The Todd Rundgren Live From Daryl’s House was filmed for the next season of Daryl Hall’s show.

Todd Rundgren will tour Australia in October.

Todd Rundgren dates

October 22-24, Sydney, Todd-A Roo at Cockatoo Island
October 25, Katoomba, Hotel Gearnins
October 26, Sydney, Oxford Art Factory
October 27 and 30, Melbourne, The Curtin Bandroom
October 31, Adelaide, Crown & Anchor

Leo Sayer Shares His Thoughts on The Passing of Sly Stone

There really is a riot going on right now, so what a poignant moment it seems to be to lose a hero I never met, yet a man I often imagined as my soul brother. I worked with many of his alumni (including the man who helped invent him, fellow San Fran disk jockey Tom Donahue), and to say they and he inspired me would be a useless understatement.
