Taylor Swift Explains Why All Her Friends Are Famous

Taylor Swift has explained why she’s friends with so many successful people: because she knows they’ll never use her for social climbing.

Swift’s squad is made up of stars such as Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez and Hailee Steinfeld among others, and the pals often post photos of their exploits on social media. Much has been made about Taylor’s famous harem, and now the Shake It Off singer has shed some light on the group.

“I think one of my main goals in trying to preserve my sense of reality has been to surround myself with friends who have their own careers, and who don’t need me for any sense of validation or social climbing, or a career statement,” she told Vogue Australia.

The sisters from group Haim, Este, Danielle, Alana, as well as Sarah Hyland also hang around with Taylor on a regular basis. Because a lot of her friends are in the industry, Taylor trusts their opinion when it comes to her music.

“My friends have all solidified themselves in their own careers and so if they think that I shouldn’t put out a certain single as a first single, they’re going to tell me: ‘That wasn’t one of my favourites that you’ve played me Taylor,’ and I’m going to respect that opinion,” she smiled. “I think it works both ways; your friends have to be confident in your friendship in order to be honest with you, and then you have to be humble enough to accept honesty.”

During the candid chat Taylor also spoke about how she has no desire for the market to become saturated with her music.

“I’ll need to give people a certain breather from me because at a certain point they’re going to get a little sick of hearing about me, so then I’ll need to go away for a while and then depending on my gauge on how sick of me they are I’ll decide when to put out the next album,” she said of her plans.
