Ollie Olsen To Curate The Class of 2018 for Leaps and Bounds

Australia’s post-punk, electronica legend Ollie Olsen will curate the Class of 2018 event for the Leaps & Bounds festival for the City of Yarra.

Olsen has lined up Vacuum, the side-project of Jenny Branagan of Nun to headline his event. Kollaps and Simon Karis will also perform along with Olsen.

Ollie Olsen was a pioneer of electronica-punk with his band’s Reals then The Young Charlatans. The Young Charlatans included Rowland S. Howard who had already written ‘Shivers’ and first performed the song in that band.

Next came Whirlywind with Andrew Duffield (pre-Models). The band was short-lived and had broken up before this single ‘Sextronic’ appeared.

In 1986 filmmaker Richard Lowenstein asked Olsen to appear in his movie Dogs In Space. Instead, Ollie supervised the soundtrack, re-recording Whirlywinds ‘Win/Lose’ and recording Michael Hutchence’s ‘Rooms For The Memory’.

Olsen’s work Hutchence on Dogs In Space led to the two collaborating as Max Q in 1989.

Ollie Olsen’s The Class of 2018 is on at The Tote on 14 July 2017.
