Paul McCartney To Play Chile In April

Paul McCartney has announced his first show for 2014 will be in Chile in April.

McCartney last performed in Chile in 2011 on his ‘Up & Coming Tour’. In 2013 he performed in 23 cities across South America, Europe, North America and Japan.

Sir Paul’s first show of 2014 will be at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile on Monday, April 21.

Despite McCartney reactivating in 2014 there is still no news of an Australian tour. McCartney has been constantly on the road for decades but has not toured Australia since 1993.

McCartney was due to tour Australia and play two shows exclusively in Melbourne in 2002 but the event was cancelled.

In a statement at the time he said, “As a mark of respect to both the families who have lost loved ones and to the families of the injured, I have decided to postpone my planned concert in Melbourne as this is not the appropriate time for a rock show.”

“Like many who have a deep fondness for Australia, I have been shocked and saddened by the recent terrible events in Bali. My sympathies . . . are with you in all your grief,” he added.

That statement made no sense whatsoever as McCartney was one of the first act to perform in New York after 911 to show support for the families of the victims.

McCartney was due to perform at Melbourne’s Telstra Dome (now Etihad Stadium) to a capacity of around 60,000 people per night. After five days on sale, 30,000 tickets were sold.

That led to a media backlash for Sir Paul with suggestions that the cancellation was due more to the failure to sell tickets than the “crocodile tears” Bali announcement.

Will Australia be included in McCartney’s upcoming tour plans? “More McCartney dates will be announced soon,” his Chile statement says.
