Peter Frampton has reunited with an old friend, the guitar he played on ‘Frampton Comes Alive’.
The guitar went missing back in 1980 when the cargo plane carrying it to Panama crashed. For all of these years Frampton though the guitar was destroying in the crash.
The 1954 Les Paul Gibson guitar was found in the wreckage and sold. Frampton thought it had gone up in smoke.
Frampton owned the guitar since 1970 when he was still in Humble Pie. He borrowed it from a guy called Mark Mariana. Frampton liked it so much that Mariana let him keep it.
As well as Frampton Comes Alive, Peter used it on the Humble Pie albums ‘Rock On’ and ‘Rockin The Fillmore’ as well as on albums for George Harrison and Harry Nilsson.
Frampton fan Ghatim Kabbara discovered the existence of the guitar and spent two years negotiating its return.
Peter plans on using the guitar when he performs at the Beacon Theater in New York next month.
