Bernie Worrell, a founding member of Parliament – Funkadelic and later backing singer for Talking Heads, has lost his battle with lung cancer at age 72.

Worrell made 10 albums with Funkadelic, over a dozen with Parliament and another dozen solo records as well contributing to albums by Talking Heads and Jerry Harrison’s solo ‘The Red and the Black’.

Bernie was diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer in January 2016 but just last month his wife Judie posted that the “tumor had grown” and that it was a “very difficult time for him”.

On June 16, Judie asked Bernie’s close friends to visit him to say goodbye.

Bernie Worrell died at his home in Everson, Washington.
