Jimmy Greenspoon, who played keyboards for Three Dog Night along with a myriad of other artists, died on Wednesday after battling a brain tumor. He was 67.

Three Dog Night posted the following on their Facebook page:

We are very saddened at the passing of our dear friend and longtime band mate, Jimmy Greenspoon. Jimmy died peacefully at home today surrounded by his family. Please keep him and his loved ones in your prayers and your hearts.

Former Three Dog Night singer Chuck Negron also spoke about Greenspoon’s passing.

Today God took another for his All Star Rock and Roll Band in Heaven. Jimmy Greenspoon left us today after a gallant and brave fight with cancer. I spoke to Jimmy a little over a week ago and his frame of mind was hopeful in spite of all odds against him. We talked about all the miracles that happened in his life, including the almost 30 years of sobriety, and we remembered that miracles do happen. I will miss you Jimmy and you will always be in my heart. I have been reflecting about our years in our 20’s and 30’s traveling the world together, laughing and playing the music we both loved. Last time I spoke to him, I told him how much I loved him and how important he was in my life. I am sad that I won’t have the opportunity to tell him over and over again, how much I love him. With love and heartfelt emotions, I want to send my love to Heather and Suzie for taking care of this wonderful man in their life.

Greenspoon had been diagnosed with the brain tumor last October after he started experiencing blurred vision. The tumor was removed on October 13 but further examination showed three spots on his lungs and one on his liver that required further intervention. He has been running on-line fundraisers to pay medical bills and provide money for his family.

Greenspoon was born in Los Angeles and had taken up classical piano by the age of 7. While an eighth grader at Beverly Hills High, he formed the surf group The New Dimensions with future producer Michael Lloyd, recording three albums of instrumental music.

Jimmy went on to attend the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and played along the Sunset Strip with a number of different groups. In 1968, he met singer Danny Hutton and helped form Three Dog Night.

The band issued their first album in October of 1968 and scored their first major hit, One, in 1969. Overall, the group had 18 top ten hits and seven top twenty albums.

Outside of Three Dog Night, Greenspoon recorded with many music greats including the Beach Boys, America, Nils Lofgren, Donovan, Eric Clapton, Stephen Stills, Jeff Beck, Leon Russell, Linda Ronstadt and many more. Throughout, he continued to tour with Three Dog Night up until his cancer diagnosis last year.
