Ronald Biggs, the notorious ‘Great Train Robber’ has died at the age of 84 but many remember him more for his stint with The Sex Pistols.

Biggs was part of the Great Train Robbery of 1963 in the UK. He was caught, convicted and sentenced to 30 years in jail. However, in 1963 he escaped from prison and lived as a fugitive for 36 years.

In 2001, he gave himself up, returned to the UK and was imprisoned but was released in 2009 because of health issues.

During Biggs time “on the run” he moved to Australia and at one time was working for Channel Nine in Melbourne as a set construction worker. When Interpol discovered his whereabouts, Biggs fled via ship to Brazil and made a home in Rio de Janeiro. As Brazil did not have an extradition treaty with the UK he became untouchable.

In 1980, filmmaker Julien Temple, who was making a movie for The Sex Pistols, Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols flew to Brazil and recorded two tracks with Biggs for the movie. ‘No One Is Innocent’ became a Top 10 hit for Ronald Biggs and The Sex Pistols in the UK.
