SXSW car crash suspect Rashad Owens could likely face the death penalty now that he has been officially indicted for capital murder after during four people during SXSW in Austin in March.

Owens now faces one count of capital murder, four counts of felony murder and 24 accounts of aggravated assault after driving his car into a crowded street of people on Red River Street, Austin while they were attending the SXSW music conference.

Jamie West (27) and Steven Craenmehr (35) died at the scene. DeAndre Tatum (18) died a few days later and Sandy Le (26) died later two weeks later.

Owens was drunk at the time of the crash.

The precedent for the death penalty for killing someone while intoxicated has happened before in Texas but must prove that Owens deliberately drove into the crowd of people with intent to kill and knowing that his actions could kill.
