The Cowsills Re-Record Their Classic ‘Hair’

Bob, Paul and Susan Cowsill have gone back to the studio to re-record their now 50 year old classic ‘Hair’.

The Cowsills were the real-life family to TV show The Partridge Family was based on. Susan told me once that the original idea was for them to star in the show but development took so long that by the time they were ready to go, the Cowsill brothers and sister were too old for their own roles. There mother Barbra was also a member of the band (hence the Shirley Partridge character in the TV show).

‘Hair’ was a number one hit for The Cowsills in Australia and number two in the USA.

The Cowsills started in 1965 when brothers Bill, Bob and Barry decided to form a band. Brother John joined soon-after. Then along came sister Susan and mother Barbara followed by Bob’s twin Richard.

The band’s road manager was Richard ‘Biggie’ Korn. The Ruben Kincaid character was based on him.

The Cowsills had two other Top 10 hits in Australia. ‘The Rain, The Park & Other Things’ in 1967 and ‘Indian Lake’ in 1968.
