The Drones are national treasures, winning the inaugural Australian Music Prize for their landmark 2005 album Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By and following it up with devastatingly beautiful albums Gala Mill in 2006 and Havilah in 2008.

Minutes ago they posted on their Facebook page that they’re currently recording a new album for release next year.

The post reads: “Hello…just letting you all know that the band are currently in the studio laying down tracks for their next LP, due early 2013. There will be Australian tour dates to accompany the release, you will be getting lots of The Drones in the coming months. Admin.”

Excellent news. Check out our chat with frontman Gareth Liddiard about their 2011 DVD A Thousand Mistakes.
