The early ‘90s saw an explosion of gangsta rap but it also saw the blossoming of more creative hip-hop groups like (early) Black Eyed Peas, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde.

The million-selling Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde is a landmark ‘90s hip-hop album and they were pioneers, drafting the talents of J Dilla and Spike Jonze.

Now the Imani and Bootie Brown are set to bring their street smart and soulful beats and rhymes to Australia once more.

Tickets go on sale this Monday 2 July through OzTix and the venues. Check out the excellent Jonze-directed clip to ‘Runnin’ below, as well as the genius backwards clip to ‘Drop’ (which samples the Beastie Boys).

The Pharcyde Australian Tour 2012
Wednesday 22 August – The Beresford, Sydney
Thursday 23 August – The Espy, Melbourne
Friday 24 August – Fowlers Live, Adelaide
Saturday 25 August – Capitol, Perth
