Jamaican reggae/pop superstar OMI has sold over a million copies of his debut single ‘Cheerleader’ in the UK alone.

Music-News.com caught up with OMI at the Isle of MTV in Malta before he took to the stage to find out more.

Check out the full exclusive Music-News.com interview below.

Signed by Simon Cowell to Syco Music, the global smash is this week named the biggest selling debut of the year and the first record of 2015 to be certified with 1 million single sales.

OMI hit No.1 in the UK with ‘Cheerleader’ last month, after the record reached No.1 on iTunes in 10 countries and Top 10 in 22 countries. The single has had over 188 million YouTube views and 297 million Spotify streams, making it indisputably 2015’s ultimate summer anthem. The track is also currently at running high on the USA’s Hot 100 Billboard chart.

OMI says: ” As an artist you always dream of having success in the UK, but to sell over a million singles in the country is just mind blowing. Thank you to everyone who has bought Cheerleader and is enjoying the song this summer”.

OMI is currently recording a follow up single, due for release later this year.
