Alex Moore, frontman of UK indie favourites The Lathums, sat down with Paul Cashmere at Noise11 to discuss the band’s first ever Australian tour and their rapid rise from Wigan college project to UK chart and festival mainstays.
In this wide-ranging interview, Alex reflects on the early pub gigs that shaped the band’s energy, their debut single Artificial Screens, and the evolution of their sound across three albums. He explains how the optimism of How Beautiful Life Can Be gave way to the darker tones of From Nothing To A Little Bit More, and how their third album Matter Does Not Define benefitted from a more considered creative process and close collaboration with producer John Kettle.
Alex recalls the surreal highs along the way: Say My Name being crowned Radio X Record of the Year in 2022, playing the legendary Glastonbury Festival, and a hometown headline show at Wigan’s Robin Park Arena. One of the standout moments for him was sharing the stage with Brandon Flowers of The Killers, who joined the band to perform their breakthrough anthem How Beautiful Life Can Be.
The conversation also touches on the band’s live favourites Stella Cast and Heartbreaker, and how songs evolve when they hit the stage. Alex admits he never writes with live performance in mind, but the audience connection often gives tracks new life.
As the Lathums prepare for their first Australian tour, Alex is eager to embrace the culture, connect with fans, and share the stage with local supports including The Vanns, Special Features, The Stamps, and Mid City.
