Lauri Ylönen of The Rasmus joins Paul Cashmere of Noise11.com for an exclusive interview ahead of the band’s long-awaited first visit to Australia in January 2026.

Despite breaking through worldwide in 2003 with their smash hit In The Shadows, The Rasmus never made it to Australian shores until now. Lauri admits it’s been far too long, but promises the three-date run will be “the highlight of my year.”

Over the past two decades, the band has kept in touch with their Australian fanbase through social media. Now, those fans will finally get to experience The Rasmus live. Lauri says this isn’t just a one-off trip, with their new label Better Noise Music opening the door to future visits and festival appearances.

Reflecting on 30 years together, Lauri explains how friendship has kept the band alive through lineup changes and changing trends. The addition of guitarist Empu three years ago gave the group fresh energy, helping shape their latest, heavier, guitar-driven record. Fans can expect plenty of new songs from the album, alongside classics like No Fear and In the Shadows, plus some rarities from their early days.

The Rasmus are also planning a powerful visual show, tying in the imagery and themes from their music videos across the decades. For Lauri, it’s not just about playing the hits, but giving fans a full experience that celebrates their journey from teenage outsiders to international rock survivors.

The conversation also touches on Eurovision, Lauri’s personal songwriting-including a ballad written for his son-and the band’s outsider identity that continues to resonate with audiences.
