Machinations were one of the first Australian bands to adapt the UK post-punk electronic sound for Australia. They were first spotted and recorded by Lobby Loyde and soon after moved to Mushroom’s new indie imprint White Records, where they recorded the first of three alums ‘Esteem’ in 1983.

‘Big Music’ (1985) and finally ‘Uptown’ (1988) followed. In this 2025 interview with Paul Cashmere of Noise11.com, Fred Loneragan reveals there may be a fourth Machinations album still to come.
