Electric Stardust vocalist and songwriter Remy joins Paul Cashmere for a candid and energetic Noise11 Q&A ahead of the band’s performance at SongMakers Live at the Espy in St Kilda. Hailing from Geelong – a city long associated with surf-rock, punk and some of Australia’s most beloved alternative acts – Remy brings a fresh, humorous, and uniquely youthful voice to the local scene.
In this interview, Remy discusses the two songs Electric Stardust will showcase at SongMakers Live: Tall Bike, inspired by bassist Tom’s obsession with building ridiculously tall bicycles; and Roger, the group’s breakout single written during a SongMakers workshop. Remy reveals the surprising real-life identity of Roger – the famously buff kangaroo that went viral online – and explains how the track evolved from a grungy concept into something more in line with The Chats.
Remy opens up about growing up around the music industry, having a mother who worked within it, and discovering songwriting as a vital emotional outlet. Influences include Amyl And The Sniffers, The Chats, Spiderbait and Melbourne’s own Courtney Barnett – artists known for sharp, witty and melodic storytelling.
The conversation also delves deep into Remy’s songwriting workflow: jumping out of the shower to write lyrics before they disappear, building songs from melody first, shaping emotion through chord choices, and imagining how an audience will respond to each track live.
Remy hopes fans walk away from Electric Stardust shows feeling empowered, entertained, and “flabbergasted” – and if the trajectory of Australia’s punk scene is anything to go by, the band is already on a promising path.
