X To Perform First Four Albums Live

Punk rock icons X, who still sport the same four members as when they formed in 1977, will perform their first four albums over four nights at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles.

The band will play four consecutive nights at the famed club, July 10 through 13, which will see them take on one of the albums each evening along with classics from throughout their career. That means fans will be able to see the band play some songs from their catalog that they have never performed before in concert.

The schedule:
07/10 – Los Angeles (1980)
07/11 – Wild Gift (1981)
07/12 – Under the Big Black Sun (1982)
07/13 – More Fun in the New World (1983)

Overall, the band has released seven studio albums, one holiday EP, three live albums and two compilations.

X was formed in 1977 by John Doe and Billy Zoom, bringing in vocalist Exene Cervenka and drummer D.J. Bonebrake to fill out the sound. They were popular in the Los Angeles punk scene before being signed to Slash Records in 1980 and releasing their debut, Los Angeles, which was produced by the Doors’ Ray Manzarek.

Their followup, Wild Gift, was named album of the year for 1981 by Rolling Stone, the L.A. Times, the New York Times and the Village Voice. While the band always had a bit of rockabilly influence in their sound, they moved even more country for Under the Big Black Sun which was their debut on Elektra Records and they followed with the polished More Fun in the New World a year later.

Zoom left the group in 1986 and, after one more album, the group went on hiatus only to reunite in 1993 to record their last studio album, Hey Zeus!. Zoom returned for a final tour in 1998 after which the band broke up. Since 2005, the band has reunited on a number of occasions for festivals.
