While introducing Swedish electro DJ Avicii on stage at Miami’s Ultra Music Fest, Madonna reportedly said on stage “How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?”, Molly being a nickname for MDMA or ecstasy.

Then Grammy-awards performer Deadmau5 took The Material Girl to task over the insinuation via Facebook.

He wrote: “very classy there madonna. “HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???” such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra. quite the f’n philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! fucking cant smack my head hard enough right now.”

Inevitably, it caused a ruckus, and Deadmau5 followed it up with: “seriously, i giveth not a fucking single FUCK for slating on madonna for reaching an entirely NEW level of idiocy … i can appriciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? That’s your big contribution to EDM? Thats your big message to ultra attendies? hipsterspeak for looking for drugs? fuck off you fucking IDIOT. fuck.”

After the expletive-laden tirade, he posted: “well if this doesnt start a fuckin flame war, not sure what will. lol.”

Each post received hundreds of comments and ‘likes’, and he followed it up with a reference to Madonna’s new album title, “yeah, i really kinda leeeeeeeeroy jenkins’d that shit huh… MDNA / Molly / MDMA / whatever .. something about a track? still seems the same to me, coz its still, in my opinion, unecciscary promotion of the shit that really held EDM down for years.”

Finally, he posted an extensive screed on his Tumblr titled ‘Responsibility’, concerning his own vices, the issue of drug use in EDM, and more.

On This Day in Music History – September 8

September 8 has been a day of major turning points in music history, marking milestones for artists who changed the sound of popular culture. On this day, Elvis Presley made chart history in the UK, Pink Floyd released one of their most influential albums, and Metallica cemented their dominance of modern rock. It is also the birthday of Patsy Cline, Peter Sellers, and Aimee Mann, each leaving a unique legacy in their respective fields. While the world celebrates the births of legends, this date also marks the tragic loss of Avicii, one of electronic music’s brightest stars. September 8 is a reminder of both the highs and lows of the music world, etched across generations.
