Johnny Marr Announces Debut Australian Solo Tour

by Anthony Barton on September 30, 2013

in Live,News

The guitarist from The Smiths, Modest Mouse and The Cribs, has announced his first ever solo Australian tour in Melbourne and Sydney in January 2014.

Following his Falls and Southbound appearances, Marr will play two shows in Sydney and Melbourne, performing songs off his debut solo album ‘The Messenger’. No doubt there will be a few Smiths classics thrown in for good measure too.

Since parting with The Smiths in 1987, Marr has been busy as a member of the bands Modest Mouse and The Cribs, as well as guesting on records by Beck, John Frusciante and the Pet Shop Boys.

Melding alt-rock, indie and rock ‘n’ roll, ‘The Messenger’ represents the first time Marr has been able to write and perform the music exactly as he pleases. “The underlying idea of the record is my experience of growing up in Europe,” he explains.

‘The Messenger’ is out now through Warner Music.
