Kimbra Wins International Songwriting Competition

New Zealand born Melbourne based singer Kimbra was won the International Songwriting Competition with her song ‘Cameo Lover’.

Over 16,000 songs were submitted for the contest this year. Judges for the contest this year included Tom Waits, Tori Amos, Ozzy Osbourne, Simon le Bon, Lucinda Williams, Jeff Beck, Robert Smith and Trombone Shorty.

Other Australian winners this year were:

First place:

Rock – Kevin Mitchell, Vanessa Thornton, Brett Mitchell, Chris Daymond (Jebediah) for ‘She’s Like A Comet’.

Unsigned – Michael Paynter, Gary Clark, David Mead for ‘Are You Alive’

Folk/Singer-Songwriter – Missy Higgins for ‘Where I Stood’

Teen – Nastasha Duarte for ‘The Worst Part’

Americana – Shane Nicholson ‘The Broken Things’
