Russell Morris has won the Album of the Year award at the Blues Awards, the Chain Awards, for ‘Van Diemen’s Land’.

‘Van Diemen’s Land’ is the second blues album for Morris from a blues trilogy starting with ‘Sharkmouth’ and featuring a final instalment “when it is ready,” says Morris.

The Chain Awards were handed out in Goulburn in New South Wales this past week. ‘Van Diemen’s Land’ also scored the Producer of the Year award for Mitch Cairns and Male Vocalist of the Year for Morris.

‘Van Diemen’s Land’ was Morris’ highest charting album in 40 years. It was nominated for an ARIA Award and currently on the shortlist for APRA Song of the Year. The album was also awarded the Album of the Year from Australia’s largest independent group of music retailers Leading Edge in 2014.

Russell’s previous album ‘Sharkmouth’ has been certified Platinum in Australia for sales over 70,000. ‘Sharkmouth’ won the ARIA Award for Best Blues & Roots album in 2013.
