When Russell finished a blues album about Australia’s historical characters none of the major labels would give it a release. The album ‘Sharkmouth’ was the long shot release of 2013.

Robert Rigby’s Ambition Entertainment recognised the achieved and took a punt on the record. It went on to become the biggest selling Australian album of original songs that year and earned Russell an ARIA Award.

Russell Morris carved his place in Australian music history back in the late 60s. His song ‘The Real Thing’ is now considered one of the greatest pieces of Australian music ever recorded.

But it didn’t stop there. ‘Wings of an Eagle’, ‘Sweet Sweet Love’, ‘Part Three Into Paper Walls’, ‘The Girl That I Love’, ‘Rachel, ‘Mr America’, ‘Live With Friends’, and ‘Hush’ are some of Australia’s classic hits that still never miss a day’s airplay on radio.

‘Sharkmouth’ was only the beginning of one of the greatest comebacks in Australian music. Russell followed up his blues success with the sequel ‘Van Diemen’s Land’ and expands on the musical chronicle of Australia’s past with some of the biggest names in Australian music include Rob Hirst of Midnight Oil, Scott Owen of The Living End and Rick Springfield.

‘Van Diemen’s Land’ is part two of the trilogy.

Russell Morris is at Noise11 to perform the title track from Van Diemen’s Land.
