The St. Kilda Festival showcases ten new artists each year at the annual street party, and the lineup for the 40th anniversary is stellar.

Winners of the new music competition receive an invitation to play the main stage, as well as $5,000.

This year the prizes have gone to Face Face, Juno Disco, Mikhaell, The Hunter Express, Dr. Sure’s Unusual Practice, Hannah Kate, Messy Mammals, Bad Bangs, Francesca Gonzales and RAT!Hammock. This showcase of Melbourne’s underground covers psych-pop, hip hop, garage rock and elecro-pop.

“The New Music Stage Competition is a very special part of the program for St Kilda Festival as we love supporting emerging artists and giving them a major platform to perform their music,” said St. Kilda Mayor Bernadene Voss. “The 2020 line-up will certainly have festival-goers up on their feet enjoying a fabulous day out and helping to celebrate an impressive 40 years of the Festival.”

Forty years of St. Kilda Festival will be celebrated on Sunday, February 9, 2020, but first the full lineup announcement will drop in January.
