The Punjabi rapper was summoned by an organisation called Human Empowerment League of Punjab (HELP) in April to explain his lyrics in he interests of the public.

Singh’s song ‘Main hoon balatkaari’ translates as “I am a rapist”. The song causes outrage in India following the recent Delhi gang-rape case.

The Punjab government is in the process of finalising a policy about the public broadcast and performance of vulgar and indecent songs. They want to put together a censor board to monitor musical activity.

As well as Honey Singh other artists named in the petition include Diljit Dosanjh, Gippy Grewal, Amar Chamkila, Ashok Masti and Geeta Zaildar.

Singh has had death threats over his song.
