Sydney singer songwriter Alfio has become the first Australian to sing the American National Anthem at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden.

Alfio had the honour at the New York Rangers vs. Philadelphia Flyers game. He was accompanied by the Fire Department of New York Color Guard.

“Americans are proud and they respect and love their country, so for me to be given the opportunity to partake in that same unwavering pride as an Australian, is an absolute honor, Alfio said in a statement. “I think I’ll be American for those 90 seconds till the Kookaburras call me back home again to the land Down Under.”
