Aussie Blues Guitarist Hamish Anderson To Play 7 SXSW Showcases

Melbourne blues guitarist Hamish Anderson will perform seven showcases at SXSW in Austin Texas during the SXSW music conference and festival.

Anderson’s busiest day will be Friday, March 20 when he will perform three times, firstly at the Aussie BBQ in Brush Square Park at 12:50pm, then The Quantum Southwest Invasion at Whole Foods on Lamar Blvd at 5:40pm followed by his official showcase at St David’s Bethell Hall that night.

Hamish’s band for the SXSW dates will be Johnny Radelat (drummer for Gary Clark Jr), John Branch (bassist for Spanish Gold) and Nate Basinger (organist for The Diplomats).

“For years I’ve been watching the emerging artists that play at SXSW and it’s so great to be part of it this year,” says Anderson. “It’s an honour to represent Australia’s music scene abroad.

The SXSW will not give Anderson much time to look around. “I really hope I have some time to check out a few shows while I’m there, but it looks like it may be tricky,” he says. “I have seven shows and then a bunch of interviews and performances for media, so that will take up most of my time. We are also looking to record that week, so that’ll make things even tighter for me.”

Hamish Anderson will use his time in the USA for shows in San Francisco, Uncasville and Woodstock as well as appearances at Canadian Music Week in Toronto and the Iridium Jazz Fest in New York City.

In 2014 Anderson was handpicked as support for BB King and also toured with Los Lobos and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
