Bachelor Girl to Play the All Important Home-Town Gig Saturday at Memo Music Hall

Bachelor Girl will play their first proper Melbourne show in around five years this Saturday when they set up shop at Memo Music Hall in St Kilda.

The Memo Music Hall show will give Bachelor Girl fans a chance to hear new music as well as the greatest hits. “We will be sampling new material at the Memo Music Hall gig,” James Roche tells Noise11.com. “We can’t overwhelm people with new material because everyone is there to hear the old stuff and we play plenty of old stuff. We also do three or four new songs sprinkled in and they seem to be going well”.

Bachelor Girl recently released the song ‘Speak’.

There is more new Bachelor Girl music on the way. “The material we are doing now is not anything we had previously done. All the songs we will release this year are new and written in the last 12 months”, James says.

“A lot of people are avoiding doing albums because of Spotify. If you put out an album then all of the songs become streamable and available all at once everywhere in the world. There is no focus for the audience, your window of exposure lasts for a short time. People are doing it song by song now because it is more effective.

Bachelor Girl released two albums ‘Waiting for the Day’ (1998) and ‘Dysfunctional’ (2002). A third album of lost songs called ‘Beautifully Wrong’ was released in 2011. “We had gone a fair way into creating our third album when out record company at the time BMG was merged with Sony and the label we were on dissolved and everyone on the label was dropped so the album we were working on had nowhere to go. We kept them in our back pocket and when the time came we polished them up and released them. We didn’t see any point in keeping them in a draw,” James said.

Bachelor Girl will perform at Memo Music Hall this Saturday 18 May 2019.
