Bluesfest has compiled the list of seven best songs America perform live. Dispute if you will.

7 Best Live Tracks by AMERICA

1. Sister Golden Hair
The beautiful “Sister Golden Hair” was AMERICA’s second number one hit in 1975. The beauty of this song stands out amongst the band’s timeless repertoire and hasn’t lost any of its charm.

Well, I keep on thinkin’ ’bout you, sister golden hair surprise
And I just can’t live without you, can’t you see it in my eyes?

2. Ventura Highway
One of the best things about this classic hit is the spectacular guitar intro that leads into those uplifting voices. “Ventura Highway” was released on the ‘Homecoming’ album in 1972 and remains a road trip favourite.

Ventura Highway in the sunshine
Where the days are longer
The nights are stronger
Than moonshine
You’re gonna go I know

3. A Horse With No Name
The iconic “A Horse with No Name” was AMERICA’s first ever single release and was so popular that it hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100. All these years later the horse still has no name but the song is a classic.

You see I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain

4. Tin Man
The amazing song “Tin Man” with its lyrical ode to The Wizard of Oz was the lead single on AMERICA’s 1974 album ‘Holiday’. Songwriter Bunnell explained: “My favourite movie, I guess. I always loved it as a kid. Very obscure lyrics.”

But Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn’t, didn’t already have

5. Lonely People
The touching “Lonely People” was the second single from the album ‘Holiday’ and hit the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 in 1974. It was written by Dan Peek as a response to The Beatles song “Eleanor Rigby”.

This is for all the lonely people
Thinking that life has passed them by
Don’t give up until you drink from the silver cup
And ride that highway in the sky

6. Daisy Jane
The beloved classic “Daisy Jane” was one of those songs that everybody instantly fell in love with. It was released on AMERICA’s 1975 ‘Hearts’ album which went on to become one of the band’s most successful albums.

Does she really love me I think she does
Like the star above me I know
Because when the sky is bright
Everything’s all right

7. Today’s The Day
“Today’s The Day” was the lead single from AMERICA’s 1976 album ‘Hideaway’ and was the final Top 40 hit for the band as a trio. According to songwriter Dan Peek, it was the inspiration for Rod Stewart’s Hit “Tonight’s the Night”.

Hold me close
You turn night time into day
And you’re the most
Brightest star that lights my way

Why Queen’s Quietest Member John Deacon Chose to Become a Recluse Until This Rare Return

For fans of Queen, John Deacon has long been the enigma of the band, a brilliant musician, masterful songwriter, and humble presence behind the scenes. Since the early 1990s, Deacon has shunned the spotlight, retiring quietly after Freddie Mercury’s death in 1991. But now, years later, he has quietly resurfaced, lending his signature alongside bandmates Roger Taylor and Brian May on a charity auction item, signalling, perhaps, that even the most private of souls can still make their mark in unexpected ways.
