The Milwaukee musician vacated his Big Apple lifestyle for a piece of land on the Apple Isle. That’s right, he left New York for Tasmania.

Brian says he wanted to go to Tasmania initially to learn more about actor Errol Flynn, who was born in Tasmania and rose to international fame as one of Australia’s first major movie stars.

The land belonged to former Midnight Oil singer Peter Garrett. Brian bought the land from Peter and ironically also acquired Peter’s former band Midnight Oil, who he now performs with as The Break.

Brian and his wife Dr. Varuni Kulasekera built the house on the property on the shores of the Derwent River.

You can watch the Brian Ritchie episode of Sandcastles tonight on 7TWO in Australia or check it out online here.
