In September 1979 Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were part of the No Nukes benefit concerts at Madison Square Garden.

Jackson Browne was the organiser for the charity event to protest nuclear.

The No Nukes shows on 21 and 22 September were by Music United for Safe Energy (MUSE) and featured Springsteen, Jackson Browne, the Doobie Brothers, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Graham Nash, Nicolette Larson, Ry Cooder, Sweet Honey in Rock, Gil Scott-Heron, Raydio, Chaka Khan, Poco, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and Crosby Stills & Nash.

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band performed ‘Detroit Medley’ for the first time at No Nukes. It would become a live favourite for the band.

The No Nukes album was released in 1980. It featured a sampling of the shows.

$2 from the sale of each album will go to Browne’s MUSE charity. Get a copy here
