Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett will be included into the Hall of Fame at the next The Age Music Victoria Awards.

At Facebook, Chrissy’s cousin Patricia Amphlett (aka Little Patti) said, “I miss her like mad, we can’t have a laugh and a giggle like we use to but Chrissy’s great musical ability, her influence on female performers and probably male performers too … there was no one like her and this induction is very special for us, her family.”

Chrissy, who died of breast cancer at age 53, would have been 58 this week.

Chrissy Amphlett formed Divinyls with Mark McEntee in 1980. While still unsigned, film director Ken Cameron saw Divinyls performing in a Sydney pub and signed them to create the soundtrack for his upcoming movie ‘Monkey Grip’. ‘Music from Monkey Grip’ gave Divinyls their first hit with ‘”Boys In Town’.

Divinyls chart peak was with ‘I Touch Myself’ in 1990. It was a no 1 song in Australia, no 4 in the USA and no 10 in the UK. The album ‘Divinyls’ also reached no 15 in the USA and sold over 500,000 copies.

By 1996 it was all over for Divinyls. Chissy went into theatre and played Judy Garland in the original The Boy From Oz. In 2005 she published her book ‘Pleasure and Pain: My Life’ then in 2007 revealed she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In 2010 she discovered she had breast cancer. The MS caused complications for surgery and she was unable to undergo radiation for the cancer because of the MS. She died on 21 April 2013.

Chrissy Amphlett will be inducted into The Age Music Victoria Hall of Fame in Melbourne on 21 November.
