Depeche Mode Will Return To US Top 10 This Week

When the charts are revealed on Tuesday, Depeche Mode will once again be in the top ten keeping a 27-year run alive.

In 1990, the band had their first top ten album in the U.S., Violator. Since then, they have released seven more albums, the last of which, Spirit, will debut this week in the middle of the top ten.

According to Hits Daily Double, the album moved an estimated 60,000 copies in its first week, number 4 for the week and, with streaming added in, has 62,400 which should place it at about number 5.

Of their, now, eight straight top ten albums, their only number 1 is Songs of Faith and Devotion (1993 / #1). 2009’s Sounds of the Universe peaked at 3 while 1997’s Ultra and, potentially, Spirit, went to 5.

Spoon’s Hot Thoughts sold an estimated 24,000 to place it at 7 on the Building Album Sales Chart and, with streaming, has about 26,900 which should give it a start in the high teens. That would, potentially, be their first album to miss the top ten since 2005’s Gimme Fiction.

Chuck Berry also jumps back on the charts at number 25 on the Album Sales with 6,000 copies of The Definitive Collection. It didn’t add enough streaming to make the top 50 on Sales + Streaming.

Finally, sales of Metallica’s Hardwired…to Self Destruct were down 78% after two weeks of numbers heavily boosted by concert ticket rebates for the album, dropping them from 2 down into the low teens.

Final chart positions will be out on Tuesday.
