Don Williams Retires

Country Music Hall of Fame member Don Williams has announced that he is retiring.

This is not the first time Williams, 76, has retired. In early 2006, he took on his Farewell Tour of the World but that only lasted until 2010 when he hit the road again. In 2012, he released the album And So It Goes and, in 2014, Reflections.

Williams issued a statement, saying “It’s time to hang my hat up and enjoy some quiet time at home. I’m so thankful for my fans, my friends and my family for their everlasting love and support.”

Don had a tour planned for February, March and April but, on February 2, the dates were postponed when he had to undergo hip replacement surgery. At that time, even though the word “postponed” was used, the website stated “Ticket buyers are encouraged to contact local venues and authorized ticketing platforms regarding refunds”.

Williams had his first hit in 1973 with Shelter of Your Eyes and, over the next eighteen years, went to the country top ten 44 times including seventeen number 1’s. His biggest hit came in 1980 with I Believe in You which topped the country charts and went to 24 on the Hot 100 and 8 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It was his only crossover hit.

Williams was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010.
