Edward Norton Refers To Bruce Springsteen As ‘A Wise Man’

Edward Norton has learnt that relationships need redefining from Bruce Springsteen.

The 45-year-old actor interviewed the iconic musician as part of the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010 and the pair are firm friends. Bruce once dished out some valuable advice to Edward, who has taken every word on board.

‘He’s very wise. He’s a very down-to-Earth guy. He’s a very self-analytical and self-demanding person who wants to be a real human being and work on what it means to be a human being and what it means to be a husband and father,” the star told British newspaper The Independent of the singer. ‘He said relationships are hard work and you have to keep redefining them.’

Edward is married to Canadian film producer Shauna Robertson and the couple have son Atlas, two, together.

Since his award-winning breakout role in 1996’s Primal Fear, Edward has become one of the most talented thespians of his generation, making a name for himself in flicks such as Fight Club and American History X. He’s particular about the jobs he takes on, in part due to the advice that Bruce shared and the fact he’s a father to a young son now.

‘Yeah, I think that. I would say personal life, family life, you want to balance things, but it’s an interesting paradox because being an actor is not a thing you do all the time. If you are lucky enough, it leaves a lot of time to engage in other things and if you are engaged in other things that are really compelling or interesting or challenging to a different part of your brain or your personality, paradoxically it raises the threshold that a piece of work has to meet to interest you and pull you away from all that other stuff,” he explained. “Whereas before my ambition was almost unilaterally focused on acting, it’s not any more.’
