Elvis Costello To Release Soundtrack For His Own Story

Elvis Costello has put together a new 2-CD set that he says is a soundtrack to his upcoming memoir.

Unfaithful Music & Soundtrack Album, which will be out on October 9 via UMe, sees Costello choose songs that offer the deepest emotional connection to the themes and stories in his book. The memoir, Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink, will be out four days later via Blue Rider Press/Penguin Random House.

The set includes both hits and rarities including two previously-unreleased titles: April 5th – written and recorded with Rosanne Cash, Kris Kristofferson and John Leventhal – and one of Costello’s earliest solo recordings, I Can’t Turn It Off, from 1975.

The collection also features three exclusive “audio book sketches” – that do not appear in the published memoir – and a 28-page booklet providing the complete lyrics and many unseen photographs, several of them from the MacManus family album.

Elvis Costello Jump Up Found New Life In Stephen Colbert’s Farewell Show

Elvis Costello's obscure 1970s demo "Jump Up" was never a hit, never a single and rarely played live, yet it became one of the most discussed songs of the final episode of Stephen Colbert's Late Show. The track's political satire, its unusual history and Colbert's long-standing affection for the song explain why an overlooked recording resurfaced for television's farewell moment.
