Former Hollies singer Allan Clarke To Release First Album In 20 Years

20 years ago in 1999 Allan Clarke, the lead singer of The Hollies, retired. Well now he is back. Clarke, at age 77, has a new album ‘Resurgence’ on the way.

Retirement has been quiet for Allan. His appearances have been rare. In 2010 Clarke joined The Hollies for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2011 he joined David Crosby and Graham Nash on stage in London to perform ‘Bus Stop’. In 2018 he played harmonica for Carla Olson’s band, The Textones.

“For many years, people have asked ‘Why don’t you go back to singing?’,” he says. “What I couldn’t do was perform Hollies songs anymore. But what I should have said was that there may be a time when I’ll be able to sing, because I’ll be doing songs that maybe I’ll write myself. It was always on the back burner. But then I said to my son Toby, who’s been involved musically in the family since the year he was born, ‘I’ve got a song I’ve done on guitar, but I don’t know what to do with it, what do you suggest?’ He said ‘You should learn to use GarageBand,’ and showed me how.”

‘Resurgence’ was produced by his former collaborator Francis Haines. BMG leapt at the chance to release the album. “It’s given me a new lease of life in doing something I thought I’d never do again,” Allan said.

Track List:
01) Journey Of Regret
02) You Broke My Heart
03) The Door Is Slowly Closing
04) I’ll Just Keep On Walking
05) I’m Only Sleeping
06) Heart Of Stone
07) I Don’t Know The Reason
08) Don’t Let Me Down
09) Long Cool Woman’s Back In Town
10) I’m Comin’ Home

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
