Vince Clarke and Martin Gore, the founding members of Depeche Mode, are back working together for the first time since 1981.

Clarke split from Depeche Mode after the first album ‘Speak and Spell’ and the huge his ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ and went on to form Yazoo with Alison Moyet and then Erasure with Andy Bell.

Clarke contacted Gore earlier this year and suggested the two make a techno album. It was the first time the two had communicated in decades.

At depechemode.com Vince says, “I’ve been getting into and listening to a lot of minimal dance music and I got really intrigued by all the sounds… I realised I needed a collaborator… so it occurred to me to talk to Martin.”
Martin Gore added, “Out of the blue I got an e-mail from Vince just saying, ‘I’m interested in making a techno album. Are you interested in collaborating?’ This was maybe a year ago. He said, ‘No pressure, no deadlines,’ so I said, ‘OK’.”

The duo will be known as VCMG and release the EP ‘Spook’ later this month.

The last album from Depeche Mode was ‘Sounds of the Universe’ in 2009.
