Green Day played their first headline gig at Soundwave on Brisbane on Saturday night (February 22, 2014) with a mix of covers through the set including songs by Rick Springfield, Monty Python and AC/DC.

The AC/DC classic ‘Highway To Hell’ was given a Green Day make-over at Soundwave and Rick Springfield was also paid a homage with his 80s pop hit ‘Jessie’s Girl’.

Green Day also performed The Isley Brothers ‘Shout’ (best known in Australia as a Johnny O’Keefe song), Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’ and The Beatles ‘Hey Jude’.

While the three hour show centred around the Green Day classic ‘Dookie’ album the band did not play the complete album as was previously suggested. Five songs from ‘Dookie’ were played in the first half of the set and later they also dropped in ‘She’ but it was not the complete album experience.

Earlier this week Green Day played a surprise gig in a Sydney pub.
