The LA rapper was rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles after being found unconscious but pronounced dead soon after arriving.

Born Dwight Arrington Myers in Jamaica, Heavy D scored platinum albums with ‘Big Tyme’ (1989), ‘Peaceful Journey’ (1991) and ‘Nuttin’ But Love’ (1994) as well as Gold awards for ‘Blue Funk’ (1993) and ‘Waterbed Hev’ (1997).

His last album was ‘Heavy’ in 1999.

Only weeks ago he appeared on the BET Awards performing his hits ‘Nuttin’ But Love’, ‘Is It Good To You’, ‘I Want Somebody’ and ‘Now That We’ve Found Love’.

His last Twitter post 16 hours ago simply said “Be Inspired”. Just prior to that he was mourning the death of boxing great Joe Frazier.
